Covenant Discipleship?

Covenant Discipleship?  Now that sounds different.  Some may have heard of one or the other, but not the two together.  Well, here is what it is all about.

Here at Tampa First, we have gone back to the basic Christian understanding of what it means to be in covenant with God.  It goes all the way back to the beginning…

God made covenant with Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation.  Now many believe that to simply be the people of Israel, but we believe that we are part of that nation through Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of that covenant. 

Therefore, we have made covenant with God that we will endeavor to grow as His disciples in all we do.  Discipleship is a journey that begins early in life and continues till we die, constantly growing closer to God through prayer, the reading of scripture, fellowshipping with other believers, sharing Christ with the lost, worshipping God with our lives.  Simply put, it is about learning those spiritual disciplines necessary to be more like Christ. 

Through this, we have come to realize what it means to be a student minister.  We all have a responsibility to be ministers of the gospel, and youth are not excluded.  1 Tim. 4:12 challenges us in this way: “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (NRSV)
